Gareth Rees Miniature Painting
After many years away from the vibrant world of miniature painting, I've picked up my brush again for the first time since the 90s. It's a delightful return to a hobby that once brought me immense joy and creativity. As I dabble with the tiny figures, I find not just a pastime but a therapeutic escape from the daily stresses of life. Each stroke of paint becomes a meditation, allowing my mind to wander freely into the captivating realm of imagination.
This isn't about turning a profit or establishing a business; it's purely for the love of the craft and the calming effects it brings to my mental health. The tactile sensation of the paint, the focus required, and the satisfaction of seeing a miniature come to life have become a welcome solace. In these moments, I rediscover a sense of peace and fulfilment that had been missing for far too long.

Specialised Warhammer 40K Focus
As an avid hobbyist, I've spent countless hours immersed in the world of Warhammer 40,000, specifically painting models from the Death Guard, Orks, and various Chaos armies. There's something truly exhilarating about the grim aesthetics and rich lore of these factions that has kept me engaged over the years. However, I've recently decided to branch out and explore other armies that pique my interest, allowing me to expand my creative horizons. While I don't currently play the game itself, I find immense joy in painting the models that take my fancy, each brushstroke a chance to express my artistic vision. My goal is to eventually dive into the gameplay, adding another layer of enjoyment to this incredible hobby.

Rust & Decay Effects
Experimenting with a grimdark style, particularly in the context of rust and corrosion, reveals a world far more complex than one might anticipate. The process of exploring the interplay of decay and beauty can be daunting; every attempt to capture the essence of deterioration is fraught with challenges. One quickly discovers that the notion of rust isn’t merely about physical degradation but also about conveying a deeper narrative of time, neglect, and the inevitability of decline. The intricate visuals of corroded materials, with their varying textures and hues, demand an eye for detail and a profound understanding of how elements react and evolve over time. This artistic pursuit, while seemingly straightforward, often unveils a labyrinth of technical difficulties and unexpected outcomes, making it clear that mastering the grimdark aesthetic requires not just skill but an almost obsessive dedication to the craft. Indeed, this is a lot harder than it looks.
